Mayor's Open Schools Program begins June 26

Mayor John DeStefano, Jr. announces three site coordinators have been hired to run the Open Schools Initiative this summer, and registration continues for the program.
The Open Schools Summer Program, part of the Mayor’s Youth Initiative, will run June 26 to August 11, Monday – Friday, from 3 – 8 p.m. at three locations: John S. Martinez in Fair Haven; King-Robinson in the Newhallville area and Hill Regional Career High School in the Hill section.
This eight-week program is free to teens ages 12 to 18. Teens who register may drop in on any of the workshop activities planned. Activities will be coordinated by the City’s Parks and Recreation staff and by community-based organizations and will include recreational activities, such as gym, basketball, volleyball, swimming, games and movies and special activities (arts, music, karate, theatre).
The new coordinators are as follows:
Glenn Middleton has been selected site coordinator for King/Robinson Middle School. He is the library media specialist at King/Robinson, the head middle school boys city-wide basketball coach and is a former James Hillhouse High School student and basketball player. He has been a coach and board member for the midnight basketball program.
James E. Wright, Sr. has been selected site coordinator for Hill Regional Career High School. He is the In-School Suspension Director for Clemente Leadership Academy. He is Assistant Coach for Career Boys Basketball Team, Assistant Coach for Hillhouse Boys Baseball Team and Assistant Coach for Hillhouse Football Team. He was the Midnight Basketball Program coordinator for 4 years.
Jackie Harris has been selected the Site Coordinator for John S. Martinez Middle School. She is a 2006 graduate from Quinnipiac University with a BA Degree in Criminal Justice. She was a three year starter for the Quinnipiac University women's basketball team. She is a former All-State Basketball player for Wilbur Cross High School in 2001.
To register for the Open Schools Initiative, registration forms can be obtained are available at the three schools during school hours.
